about
The closing chapters of a long, emotional relationship are often unchartered territory. Anxiety and uncertainty can leave all involved feeling isolated, confused, or even spiteful. "At the End" is a song written from various notes, thoughts, and ideas I captured in the wake of a traumatic relationship with a toxic partner. The layered, staccato guitar intro resembles the growing tension that rises when two people realize the finale of their story together is closing, yet they don't have the words to address it. Excellent for fans of John Mayer, Mt. Joy, and songwriters like Noah Kahan, and Maggie Rogers. A passionate vocal performance and a tight rhythmic drive deliver the Adult Contemporary song perfectly for heartbreak and healing, sad indie rock, and lazy Sunday morning playlists and vibes.
lyrics
The more we try to get it right
The more it seems to end up wrong
We're a hellbound miracle and
We've lasted this long
Two fools standing in the rain
Tell me do you feel the strain
From always believing
We've got it made
Under my skin, but I like it
Full of surprises, I can't hide
You're getting the best of me
How do we begin, when we're staring at the end
After all this time, I can't get by if
You're getting the best of me
There's something about it
The incessant shouting
It feels so crowded when
You're getting the best of me
So please try not to lead me
Or call me in the evening
'Cause that's the worst bait
A lonely man can take
Under my skin, but I like it
Full of surprises, I can't hide
You're getting the best of me
How do we begin, when we're staring at the end
After all this time, I can't get by if
You're getting the best of me
Under my skin, but I like it
Full of surprises, I can't hide
You're getting the best of me
How do we begin, when we're staring at the end
After all this time, I can't get by if
You're getting the best of me
Yeah well I guess that it's true
Some days I really miss you
Some days I wish I had never seen your face
